Imagine for a moment living a life of utter simplicity. No phone, no electricity, no toilet, no running water. No taxes! No car, you walk everywhere you want to go. No grocery store, you grow some food crops, forage or barter for most things. Sounds pretty good does it?

How about no money? Add a sick child that needs to see a doctor and have medicine that has to be purchased. Now what do you do?

This describes the lives of Haitian’s living in the rural area of the country. An area like Hesse, southeast of Port-au-Prince, high in the mountains, is one such place. Star of Hope has been a partner in the community since 1998. In partnership with a local church our school is serving almost 400 children daily.

January 2010, the earth shook and the school and church were destroyed.

Destroyed Church - Hesse, Haiti

Because the people living in the area have so little cash, they could do very little to replace the lost buildings. Star of Hope was able to move quickly to replace the school building. But the church remained unfulfilled until January of this year. Once funds became available, on June 28, 2014 just six months from the starting date, the new church building was dedicated! It was a glorious day!

Pastors and church leaders traveled from surrounding areas to join in the celebration. The people in the area dressed in their finest to express their gratitude. The Star of Hope representatives were privileged to do the ribbon cutting. It was truly an honor.

Celebration of New Church Building in Hesse, Haiti

The new building will be a central part of the community. Of course it will be used for church activities, youth groups, choirs and the such. But it will also open its doors to the community. Community meetings will take place there. Weddings, graduations, and training sessions of all kinds will now have a beautiful facility to use.

Hesse Haiti, June 2014 - star of hope builds again

This was made possible because a family far away from Haiti heard of the need, prayed and knew that God wanted them to help the people of Hesse with a new building. The keynote speaker, Pastor Wallace Edmond from Dano, preached on giving thanks at the dedication service. He reminded the people that they will not see the donor family that made this possible, but they could pray often for that family as a real way of saying thank you.

Hesse has a new church building four years after the earthquake took their old one. God saw their need, He heard their cries for help, and in His time he provided by raising up a family far away to help. God is so good.

Maybe God has blessed you with material goods and you are looking for ways to use that money to bless others. Here is an example of how one family did just that! Our President & CEO can give you some ideas of how you can accomplish something more through Star of Hope. Call him at (866) 653-0321. He would be happy to talk.
