One person’s catastrophe is another's day to day normality.

Yesterday we reported that the Typhoon in the Philippines did not affect our projects and we would like to edit that report now. Lilling Coruna, Star of Hopes Service manager did report no casualties however after receiving these photographs we saw directly that the storm did in fact to a tremendous amount of physical damage at some of our projects.

What is interesting is the mindset, perhaps if you live in a typhoon revenged country a “small “storm is no big deal. To us it looks terrible, trees down, power out, standing water at our schools and so on. Put side by side with the incomparable positive attitude of the Philippine people, it is a nightmare to find conventional terms for this type of event. Here follows Liling’s post:

None of us in my family or Star of hope workers were hardly affected by the typhoon Glenda. We were really scared by the strong winds that caused the uprooting of trees and the falling of branches. Some electric posts fell down, so we were in darkness for 24 hours. And the most horrifying of all, especially amongst the wifi and face books addicts was that, there was no internet connection.

In Taytay school, there is a shallow flooding’s. The school was suspended for 3 days now. I am the most affected because my office is flooded again. I could not work there. There is no electric power. As of this moment, we have a very strong rain. The flood water is rising up again into an alarming height. The classes are suspended again tomorrow. We just pity our students, what will they learn if there is always an event dismissing classes.

Photos after the storm that leftthe school unusable, now we wait.

The next typhoon coming is named Henry and is already heading for us. We made many bridges in Taytay which is made of woods for the pupils to cross the floods into their rooms. Lastly, we are so thankful that not even one person among us at all the Star of hope projects was killed or injured. Thank God!
