Myrtha Dor, reports from Bois Negresse, Haiti
The water problem in the community is so serious that children in Bois Negresse couldn’t come to school on daily basis because their parents could not find water to prepare meals or bathe their children prior to school. Children, women and men have walked and searched everywhere in the community of Bois Negresse in search of the precious water and couldn't find any. Listening to the news yesterday in the Star of Hope office, we were told of people screaming at the government officials and pleading for help. But so far, no government presence and intervention has been seen in Bois Negresse.
So we took action and sent a truck with 3,500 gallons of clean water; half of this was given to the school for the cooking needs and the other half was distributed to the population who were already waiting in line, having found out that Star of Hope was bringing water. For the moment everyone in the community of Bois Negresse can cook, bathe and clean.
Star of Hope also distributed 210 bags filled with potable drinking water through the children who attend the school and subsequently represent 210 families. The children were very happy to bring their bag of water home to drink with their family for the coming days. It was joy and happiness was on the faces and in the houses in Bois Negresse’s community today.
