Dear Friends,
God is good all the time. Warm greetings in the name of our savior Jesus Christ.
The opening of the new school year started yesterday with a reduced number of students due to the announcement of strikes and a street demonstration scheduled for this week. It is not only because of the strikes that the pupils do not come in large numbers but and especially because it is the first week of opening of the classes. In general, students start coming to school in greater numbers from the second week of opening and 100% after one month.
For yesterday and today, school attendance in Haiti is less than 50%. The attendance of students in schools supported by Star of Hope is greater or less than 50% depending on the school location where the strike had the greatest impact. Attendance varies from school to school. the school attendance reported to us today is as follows.
- Bois Negresse School: 375/496 or 75%
- School of Boyer: 242/596 or 40%
- Ecole Dano: 167/510 or 32%
- School of Hesse: 322/330 or 97%
- Jeanton School: 350/589 or 59%
- Marigot School: 35/160 or 22%
- Rigaud School: 343/600 or 57%.
Even though students are not coming to the school in large numbers this week, it has however been reported that all school activities are functioning normally well in all Star of Hope schools. Because leaders know this school year will be short, they don't want to miss a single day of class so they can complete the curriculum for all levels.
This year, Jeanton's school faces problems with a lack of classrooms to accommodate grade 11 students. they are forced to work in the church. Jeanton's school is booming, they need urgent help to build 3 more classrooms to put the 11th grade and the next higher promotion classes, from 11 to 13th grade.
A more detailed report from each school will be starting next week after each of our inspection visits.
Thank you to all of you and to all the sponsors of the children in Haiti.
Sincerely, stay healthy!
