Rigaud, April 2010 - Star of Hope, Haiti

Impact and Reach

Donations help offset the cost of school fees. Most children pay 700 gdes (Haitian currency) every year for tuition. That cost would be 4 times higher without Star of Hope funding. There are 572 children receiving a preschool, primary, and school education. 69% of students passed their final exam last year and 92% of graduating class passed the official exam to get a certificate to secondary level.

Other projects from the past included: school construction and church construction in 1998, children education from 1998 until present, and they are also in cooperation with other organizations like BND, FONHEP, and Plan International.

More help is still needed in this area. Expanding donor contributions could help pay for classroom improvement such as better classroom lighting and building 3 new preschool classrooms is a must. Better benches, chairs, and desks are also helpful. Better teacher salaries, school feeding improvement, better child healthcare, sports for the school, books for students, more school uniforms, additional maintenance to buildings, more administration, and a new healthcare center could be used.
