Soon many reports on the Christmas giving will show up, in the meantime here is a report from a work just south of the border. It is an update on what is going on in San Luis Río Colorado Sonora, México.
In San Luis Rio Colorado, the Christmas holidays for all the students from preschool to secondary school started on the 20th of December. The families that are able to, have started to prepare for the festive season but there are many families in San Luis that aren’t able to. They struggle to make ends meet and can only think about the day at hand. The children return to school on the 3rd of January and until then, the families just have to make the best of what they have.
In San Luis, Star of Hope works together with Eladio and Margarita Valencia who are pastors and who moved from the US to build their own church there with the goal to help people in need. They started off with just a simple roof with chairs underneath and have with time been able to build a small church for the people in their neighborhood. They are known to help people with everything that they can.
Covid-19 has taken its toll on the people in San Luis, and as we have seen in so many parts of the world, the very poor become even worse off due to the pandemic as what they do for a living normally is selling on the streets and offering some kind of service. From a small income to no income the families and their children are now struggling.
This year as every year, the church of Eladio and Margarita - Jehova Sama, will reach out to the children in the neighborhood and hope to be able to give them some food, and maybe a present so that they can feel the joy of Christmas.
The church has a sermon every Sunday and also has a Sunday School, and they are trying their hardest to help with something to eat as well as sharing the word of God.
In San Luis Rio Colorado which is based close to the border of Yuma, Arizona lives a mixture of people. There are quite a few natives and around 10 different native languages spoken in the state, and as it is close to the US border there are a mixture of immigrants that live there too, mostly coming from Central America and Cuba.
Figures show that around 38% of the people that live in San Luis Rio Colorado live in poverty, and some of those live in extreme poverty.
Eladio gives food packages to a family.
Eladio and Margarita are also working on trying to get drinking water to the poor which is quite a job. They are currently digging and putting pipes down, all by hand.
We can really see and feel the love that Eladio and Margarita are spreading to the children and their families in SLRC and we would love for them to be able to reach out to more children.
If you still have a Christmas gift to give, why not share it with them? Have a look in our shop and choose something you think might help. Perhaps some powdered milk, a food package, shoes, or some bricks for a house?

Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.
