Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day in the USA

We are thankful to you

Did you know Thanksgiving is on the fourth Thursday of November, it was set by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939 but where did it come from?

Many opinions abound but the accepted account is this; in 1621 the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies.
Of course, this was the time of giving thanks to God for the pilgrims and to “the creator” by the Wampanoag.

Thanksgiving is a rare holiday in the world. Canada and the USA are the two countries that celebrate a Thanksgiving holiday in a form that we would recognize.

Most of the fourteen countries where we have projects do not celebrate a Thanksgiving holiday. However, Star of Hope staff and the children in our projects take a moment to be thankful for each sponsor, donor, and prayer that provide hope. So if you are a donor or a sponsor we say thank you from our hearts.

Hi, Mark

I was doing the dishes and thought, my son just started 3^rd grade in elementary school, and we all know kids grow at the speed of light. His feet grew so much last summer that he now has the same shoesize as me. I also had to buy him an almost completely new wardrobe for this school year as he had grown out of everything. New jackets, shoes, winter boots, winter jackets, training clothes, you name it.  As any parent will know, this is where you put your priority. Your children.

I have been working with Star of Hope for a couple of years now and I want to say THANK YOU! Because this is exactly what you help all the mothers with out there in the countries and projects where we work. Not only do you help the child you sponsor with food, but also with other necessities that we don’t always mention. A new toothbrush, cleaning products, a pair of shoes – the list goes on.

As a sponsor, giving a monthly donation helps with the most important gifts like food, education, and school material but also with so many other day-to-day things. You also help more than one child which is amazing!

And you help the children feel good psychologically and spiritually. They have someone out there who cares for them. That from their heart helps them and believes in them. YOU are that person. You won’t believe the difference that makes for a child.  THANK YOU!

The situation in the world feels very unstable with war, inflation, political problems, climate changes, and all sorts of other insecurities that make us think twice about everything we do. But the people that suffer the most in all this are the people that are already poor. That actually has nothing to do with all the changes in the world.

You have not only helped a child in need, but you have helped with so much more. THANK YOU for being there and thank you for everything that you do!

As we start our Christmas giving appeal we look back, 30 years ago, when we sent Christmas packages for the first time, then to war-torn Bosnia. Today, yet another affected country needs our help – Ukraine. Where does the Christmas spirit go during burning wars? How do you make a child on the run experience the miracle of Christmas? We found a way 30 years ago when Christmas packages spread joy among the victims of the Bosnian war. Now we see history repeating itself.

Ukraine's children are heading towards their first Christmas in the shadow of war - and we want to give them the joy back. Star of Hope's tradition of handing out Christmas packages kicked off in 1992.

Our co-founder Lennart Eriksson traveled through a war-torn Bosnia with blown-up buildings and bridges. " We went there and prayed to God that no one would shoot at us. It worked," he says.

Before the end of the year, we had sent 70 trucks to Bosnia! Today, three decades later, the Christmas packages spread joy in Europe as well as in Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia. It has become possible thanks to all of you who donate money earmarked for Christmas packages.

For the money, we pack packages on-site in each country and distribute them to expectant children who have been longing since last Christmas. We intend to make these children happy again – but we are not stopping there. This year we also want to comfort the children of the war in Ukraine. What we have learned is that every Christmas package carries an unwritten message for the family that receives it: "The world has not forgotten you! We see you, we care, and we will not abandon you and Jesus loves you".
