Myrtha Dor reports from Haiti and a new wet project!

Today (3-13-15) we have been to Dano, Haiti together with 2 members of our Board of Directors to take part to the inauguration of the Water project and Library financed by Star of Hope with the funds of Soderberg & Partners.

As we arrived in Dano ahead the schedule, we profit the time and visit the community Soccer field project in construction with Georges Hudicourt and Sandro Masucci; the President and Vice President of our Board of Directors. They were happy to see this ambitious work and the progress in the development work that Star of Hope is doing in Dano. The President of our board was amazed to see how much Star of Hope Haiti we have accomplished.

Delegations from different schools from the area, parents and children were all present to show their happiness as these 2 projects are officially now part of their daily life. Regardless your school, living only in the community; the library doors are opened to all for research, to borrow or to buy. The big winner of this library is of course the Dano’s school. They have already established a reading time schedule for all classes that will stimulate the children to borrow the books and to be amused to read. The community is so happy for their library project that they have named it “SODERSTAR” in recognition of this tremendous gift from Soderberg & Partners Sweden through Star of Hope.

The Water Project is named “Gift of God Water” by the entire community who has been suffering for years for this precious drink. After the earthquake an organization spent hundred thousands of American dollars to build more than a dozen water kiosks in the community, none gives a drop of water because of drought the piping catchment is dried. That’s why this water project in Dano is considered as a gift from God and also seen as a blessing for the community that they are protecting and giving good care.

The hand pump and the water kiosk inside the school project is one of 2 stations serving the entire community of nearly 12,000 people! The long 60 minute trip to get water is no longer applicable for people living in Dano. The water is limpid and fresh. It teases you to drink a cup when collecting it in bucket. So fresh and sweet, drinking it travels you to the world to admire its importance. The importance to have it now available at all time to drink, to cook, to bath, for the laundry and all other house work and need is a blessing.

In behalf of the community of Dano and the Haitian Board of Directors and Star of Hope Haiti, we send our special thanks to Soderberg & Partners who are supporting our development work in order to make a difference in the life of the Haitian citizens living in their community.
