“The center is like my second home.”

The heart of the project in Valea Seacă, Romania, is the resource center where children receive homework help, extra tutoring, food, and access to hygiene facilities. Efforts are also directed towards improving the children’s home environments and supporting the parents in their role as guardians.

Our goal is clear: The children’s parents shall be the last begging generation. A measurable effect is that 98.2% of the children in the support program pass their grade levels with sufficient marks. This can be compared to the country’s Roma minority as a whole, where only 32% complete compulsory school and 28% never even learn to read.*

Vasilica, 13 years old:

“The center is like my second home. I feel safe here. It’s a calm environment where I can be among friends, and where I can learn and have fun at the same time.”

Emanuel, 7 years old:

“I learn a lot here, and everyone is kind to me. When I grow up, I want to be a firefighter and save people from danger, just like heroes do!”

Alexandra, 11 years old:

“Coming here has made me feel more confident in school. Now I aim to become a hairdresser, because I like making others feel beautiful. I’m already practicing on my friends.”

Narcis, 8 years old:

“It’s good that I get help with difficult things, like math. No one judges me here. They encourage me instead. Then I feel so strong that I can keep going to school. I want to be a mechanic, because I like cars, and I like trying to understand how things are built.”

Manix, 12 years old:

“I usually do my homework here, where I can get help. The food is good too – I look forward to it every day! This place helps me develop. Not just in school, but in life.”

Novac, 14 years old:

“I don’t just come here to study. I come here because people understand me. They help me stay focused and encourage me to keep aiming for my dream. I want to be a policeman and stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves.”

Rebeca, 14 years old:

“It feels good to come here and get help with schoolwork, especially before tests. People listen to me here. I’ve been inspired by all the kindness I’ve experienced here and want to pass it on to others. That’s why I dream of becoming a nurse.”
