People looking for suppliesGiving a gift that will mean so much for a Haitian child and her family to your loved one is really special. Giving a goat can literally save a child's life.

If you "Give a Goat", Star of Hope will send a card to your loved one, in your name, letting them know of this special gift. After the goats are distributed you and your loved one will receive a picture of "your" goat.

The child who receives a goat from you will then "pay it forward" by giving one of the offspring from his goat to  another who hasn't received one yet. Learn More or "Give a Goat"

Would you help make Christmas Special for a Child?

Each year Star of Hope projects around the world plan special Christmas events that give a reprieve from the daily struggles that many of our children face. This year resources are scarce and your help is needed to make this a special time. Click here to learn more

Could you help meet a $35,000 shortage?

God has met needs this year in unexpected and blessed ways. However it appears that we will end the year with about a $35,000 deficit in our general operating funds.

This is fund that pays salaries, rent, communication costs, insurance and accounting fees. These costs of running a mission are faced by every mission and church. Please consider a special gift to help meet this shortfall. Click here to help.

Christmas at Star of Hope Trinidad Preschools

Trinidad Christmas

Star of Hope supports two preschools, that Naomi Reid and her family have been running for more than 20 years. Everyday the Reid family gives all they have to these children.  When we heard Naomi wanted to have a Christmas party for the children and planned to get them each a gift , we had to help out.

With your help, she was able to purchase all of the gifts needed for the children.  I was on the speakerphone when the children were having their Christmas party and heard them laughing and singing.  This was enough reason for me to keep on raising funds for these children through projects like this.  I am very grateful to you for giving to this great need.

The children and staff of Star of Hope Trinidad and I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your donation this Christmas season.

What a Great Project!

Chickens Make Good Gifts! For the second year the Star of Hope Goats and Chickens “pay it forward” project has been a huge success.  To this moment, there have been 123 Goats and 127 Chickens donated to needy families in Haiti!  There is still time if you would like to get your own goat or chicken.  One year after receiving the goat or chicken, the recipient shall give away one of the offspring to a member of the community that didn't receive an animal.  Goats are $60 and Chickens are $15.  . July 12, 2012 - Bois Negresse, Haiti

A StarTeam of four men from Calvary Baptist Church, Ellinwood Kansas has completed the structural improvements to the roof of the new school building in Bois Negresse, Haiti. The team arrived on site on Monday and in just 3 days installed more than 500 hurricane ties to reinforce the roof preventing damage from wind.

In addition to the work that was accomplished, they had time to introduce the children in the area to 'frisbees'. As a former team member said, "You haven't lived until you have dozens of firsbees flying at you at once!"

The team was able to paricipate in two Bible teaching classes where the team shared their testimonies. The children were especially intrigued by the ballon animals one of the team members made. They also walked through the surrounding communities to meet familes and visit the farms.

Tony Boursiquot, Star of Hope Haiti Program Manager reported:

"As usual It is a very fruitful mission work that this team has accomplished in Bois negresse. Population are very satisfied of the work has been done and the relationship build up with the team and experience that they share together with the team. They come back from bois negresse today but star of hope Haiti decided to let them spend the last night in Haiti in a beach Hotel for good resting and relaxing time before they go back home tomorrow. I will pick them up around 1;00 Pm at the hotel straight to airport."

Trinidad Children Looking Forward to Christmas

Naomi Reid plans Christmas each year for the children in her two projects. These children often live with grandparents or s single mom and don't have much. The ability to attend the Star of Hope Nursery Schools is building hope in each child's life that things will be better.

Naomi wishes to give a small gift to each child. The cost is so little, just under $5 per child, but there simply isn't enough in her operating budget to allow for it. Some of you have already helped and we have reached half of our goal. But we need at least another $250 to make sure each child receives a gift. Can Naomi count on you? Simply click here to make a secure, tax deductible donation helping to provide Christmas for these children. (You may also send in your check to the Star of Hope address below.

Just in From Sister Naomi Reid

The ouside metal doors leading directly into the library and from there into the school rusted out and fell off this past Friday. Fortunately when it fell there were no children nearby, so no-one was hurt.

Until we can have it repaired, someone must be in the library day and night to prevent theft. The welder came to see what he could do but the metal is rusted and he says the door and the frame will have to be replaced at a cost of $500!  Can you help?

Unfortuately we are already more than $35K behind for the year and we just simply don't have any funds to send right now. If God moves you to help, simply click here to make a safe on-line donation.

Today we Remember the Cost of Freedom

I want to take a moment on Pearl Harbor Day to remember and say thank you.  In 1941 the world changed in the matter of a few hours. We shall never forget.

Star of Hope Projects & Kids Devistated by Flooding

Star of Hope High School Flooed

The Star of Hope High School in TayTay was flooded with five feet of water. The building was constructed with hardening for earthquake and flooding so is not in structural danger. The same cannot be said for the furnishings and materials. This flooding came so rapidly that staff did not have time to move much to the upper floors. Pastor Gani Coruna writes..Read More »

Can you Help Restore the Schools and Kids Lives?

People looking for suppliesSince the flooding is so widespread people have lost most of their possessions that are on ground level. Food and water are a big problem. The two Star of Hope school buildings are housing refugees.

People are also worried about relatives and freinds. Many are helping their neighbors and families even while they themselves are in trouble.

You can have a part in helping recover from this flooding. Star of Hope around the world is asking for donations to help put things back to normal as quickly as possible. Any amount will help.Click here and make a donation on line.

Star of Hope together with our donors made a difference in 2011. Lives have been touched through all of our efforts. In the slide show you can see examples on what has been done.

Enjoy the slideshow showing the results of our work.

ARGENTINA

Argentina continues to amaze all of the staff at Star of Hope with the continued faithfulness to God's call on their hearts. They live the example as set forth in scripture "...whatever you do, in word or deed...". They are providing spiritual guidance through their ministry of church services, Bible teaching, counseling, providing Bibles and other materials to increase the understanding of God's word in the hearts of the people they serve. AND they see to the physical needs as well. On a regular basis they are giving out food and other cooking necessities. They help the homeless find shelter, feed them and personally help them tend to their personal needs.

They have a number of trade schools and have had numerous students take advantage of learning a trade. The students, themselves, have given testimony to the success they are experiencing as a result of not only the opportunity to attend but also the prayers and encouragement of the staff of the Good Shepherd Foundation, who partner with Star of Hope.

In Argentina we see in action what many people only talk about doing. It is a blessing to see their pictures and read of their work. We anticipate the continued growth and blessings as a result of the steadfast answer to God's call.

MEXICO

The major construction work on the church and other buildings is completed. Now the focus is on supporting the programs that have been put into place. Star of Hope helps support the feeding program for 40 – 60 children of migrant parents as well as helping to fill the gap while the parents are absent during the day. In the coming year there will be a concentrated effort to expand the simple literacy work that has been started. Star of Hope is also helping to supply Bible study materials for young and old. The computer, printer and internet access provided helps provide not only more accessible and cheaper classroom materials for the children but has also made Eladio, the pastor, exceedingly happy to have more access to increase his own knowledge on the sermon materials. The target population of Eladio and Margarita are families in the area. They desire to not only help educate the children but also help the family grow spiritually.

HAITI

The staff of Star of Hope Haiti is so in tune with the needs of the people that project selection and implementation becomes second nature. They have recognized the need to not only provide elementary education but improve the delivery. To that end they procured the materials and skilled labor to construct thousands of pieces of new desks and benches for the first model pre-school in Jeanton. In addition they have painted them bright primary colors. They also brought in volunteers to paint animated figures on the walls. These are elements that will stimulate the learning cells of the brain and get these precious children off to a very good start in their education.

They have also worked to provide clean water to several projects. One project has a new water collection system to which chemical treatment can be added to assure safe drinking water for the students. Another location has been the recipient of a magnificent water purification machine around which they have built a housing unit to protect and secure it. Not only does it provide sufficient water for the students but the school is then able to sell clean water to the community. This accomplishes two distinctive goals; 1) Provides funds for the maintenance of the machine, 2) Aids in preventing water borne diseases to the students and community.

In the village of Boyer, the first class of sewing students graduated in June with 3 members of the class already employed or able to start their own business. The other students were in a position to at least be able to sew clothes for their own children as well as neighbors and relatives. Three months later a new class was started in a second location and will be completed in the summer of 2012. There are plans in the making to start yet a third class as soon as the funds are procured.

One thousand five hundred and five goats and chickens were distributed this year. We cannot even begin to understand the financial and emotional significance of these gifts to the recipients. Many times it is a matter of life and death when the money is needed for emergency uses.

TRINIDAD

Because of the support of Star of Hope, the work in Trinidad, Maloney school has been more successful than most of the surrounding government schools. This year, others have come in and joined the construction work to provide even more space to accommodate more students. Every year the students of Sister Naomi complete pre-school highly qualified and are accepted into the elementary schools. And this past year has been no different. These children, however, have not only received an academic education, they have and continue to receive a spiritual training and blessing to equip them to face the public schools. Even as preschoolers, they have learned to hide God's word in their heart. And as in all Star of Hope supported schools the children receive at least one hot meal, of which, for many might be the only food they have on some days.

PHILIPPINES

Many people think that Manila is such a large and hopeless place on this continent that surely nothing can help. They are wrong! Star of Hope Philippines is changing lives every day through the servant hearts of the dedicated staff. They continue to operate two schools in Taytay and Crame in Manila. Crame is preschool only but Taytay goes all the way through high school. For the third year they are also operating an elementary school in Ilog, Infanta 3 hours outside of Manila on the eastcoast. Again this year they have successfully guided students, (who have nowhere else to go) through a successful course that will give them a foundation that is their only hope to any success. Star of Hope provides them with food and necessary materials. They are also given opportunities for social development and vocational training that will lead to jobs. In a country and city with so many people in competition it is an invaluable investment for them. The only thing better than education, is the fact that it is done with an infusion of spiritual teaching.

ROMANIA

When we hear the word Romania we first have to stop and think about where it is. Then we think of the years of tyrannical dictatorship and the horrors the people had to endure and the scars that remain. The devastation was so horrific that even today, 23 years after the revolution; the country still struggles to overcome the backward ways and thoughts. Star of Hope is pleased to be in a position to help with and influence the continued recovery of this nation. The most recent and possibly most significant project is working with the Women's Ministry helping them to learn and understand they have a Heavenly Father as well to whom they can turn. As in most instances when there is a medical problem in a home, the majority of the "hands on" care and responsibility falls on the woman's shoulders. Star of Hope sponsors programs to not only help the women find resources to understand and deal with the individual problems of their children but they are also working with the doctors and other people of responsibility to change policy and rid the country of stigma that children with mental and physical disabilities are second class citizens.

Happy Children Giving Thanks

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day in the USA

Every year we stop for one day to consider how we are blessed. We take time to thank family, friends and God. Families come together, often for the only time each year.

Thanksgiving is a rare holiday in the world. Canada and the USA are the two countries who celebrate a Thanksgiving holiday in a form that we would recognize.

We have so very much for which to be Thankful

Most of the eighteen countries where we have projects don't celebrate a Thanksgiving holiday. However, Star of Hope staff, and the children in our projects take a moment to be thankful for each sponsor, donor and prayer that provide hope.

You can share your Blessings

If you are a sponsor, consider a small extra gift for your child or project for Christmas. If you are not a sponsor consider becoming one. Like the old hymn, we can help "make you a blessing to someone today".

Click here to make a Christmas gift donation to your child on-line. To activate a sponsorship right now, just click here. You may indicate in the comments section if you have a preference as to country, age or gender. (If you leave it blank, we will choose a child for you.)

The first Threads of Hope students complete the first year of study. The 2010-2011 Boyer sewing class graduated Sunday, June 26, 2011. The 31 young ladies and 2 young men received their diploma in the presence of parents and friends in Boyer. Each  graduate modeled dresses that they made as graduation final exam. For the two young men, they custom made their dresses and had the special lady model them.

All the dresses were nice and very well made. It took them 9 months to learn basic sewing as a profession. Starting today they are ready to find a job or to open their own business. Some of them will form a cooperative and work together.

The first laureate is one of the two boys and his name is Emilode Lafalaise, the second laureate is Magalie Pierre and the third one is Edeline Fleurinor. The ceremony started at 10:30 am and ended around one o'clock. It was a rich and long graduation ceremony with speeches, diploma, dance, sings, pictures, etc..

The next step for this class is to learn basic business skills. The top students will be asked to teach this first year course to a new round of students. They will do so under the direct supervision of the professional teacher. Once they are able to complete the business training, we will evaluate the impact of the project not only on the lives of the class members but also how it has impacted their families and communities. Our dream is to replicate this successful model in Jeanton and Dano and then the other Star of Hope projects as appropriate..

Linda Borror, from Star of Hope America was present. She came to Haiti to take part to the graduation. She has been involved to make Boyer sewing project a reality. From the beginning to the end she was making funds-raising, collecting materials to support sewing class. Her constant effort and commitment to make it a successful project is priceless. She helped to design the diploma, put together the text books, to print picture and documents for the sewing project. It is time to thank all Star of Hope donors that have supported this project to the benefit of young ladies and young men that are graduated today. Without donors the Threads of Hope sewing project would not be possible. Thank you again to you all!
