Tragically, this is the second major quake to hit the region in just over a week. Right now, 68 precious lives have been confirmed lost, and 33 people remain missing.
This disaster hits incredibly close to home for our global ministry family. Mindanao is where Star of Hope Philippines co-founder, Liling Coruna, grew up. Our dear former colleague on the ground, Sally Empuesto Buenaventura, reports total devastation.
“We are sleeping outside because we don’t dare go back into our house,” Sally shares. “It’s still standing, but it’s badly damaged. My mother’s roof collapsed. Everything inside is covered in dust, and the heavy rains are pouring in, destroying what’s left of her belongings.”
So many vulnerable families have been left completely homeless, facing pouring rains with nowhere to turn. They are shaken, hurting, and in desperate need of support.
