As of 2010, the World Bank estimated that 75% of Guatemalans fell below the national poverty line. The average annual income per family in Guatemala is 2,600 - 2,800 USD, though many do not earn this much. The average family in the areas where Star of Hope has partners are on the bottom of scale.
Today we partner with Association Eterna Primavera. The association is an organization promoting community development through education and health care. The work with families of very limited economic means. The work is in the area of San Felipe and San Martin.
In 2011 we added a new partner Tob'anik. Tob'anik began as an outreach run by a Spanish Language school in Quetzaltenango. Founded by local women, the program has expanded to include support from the school's foreign students. They personally have seen the need the poorest families have. That is to provide access to education for their children. Tob'anik has been helping 40-60 children each year attend schooll and with our help we can greatly increase that number.
Will you join with us in helping a child attend school?
