By the end of 2021, a total of ten new classrooms in three of our schools were completed in Haiti.
The schools in Boyer and Jeanton now teach from preschool all the way to 12th grade, all during one session.
Previously, we had to have classes in both morning and afternoon. It became too cumbersome and very costly. Some of our schools also offer tuition in what is called Philo, which is a year of pre-study for those who want to go to university, think pre-college preparation.
Jeanton now has three new classrooms and Boyer four.
The school in Bois Negresse now has classes from preschool up to grade nine in very nice buildings. For the children in grades 7-9, the teaching had been done previously in a shed. In the long run, we also hope to be able to offer higher grades there as well. In Bois Negresse, a guest room has also been built for long-distance guests.
The Haitian government passed a new school law, among other things they stated that compulsory school now includes grades 1-9, compared to previous grades 1-6.
In the long run, the state hopes to raise the level of education throughout the country so that more children and young people get a proper education. With approved grades after year 9, they can now apply for various vocational education schools.
These buildings were already planned for the autumn of 2020, but due to the pandemic, the work could not start as planned.
