Water is not flowing. Only 2 wells working in Jeanton. Text water10 to 41444 now!

Myrtha Dor from Haiti reports...

Did you know a severe draught is literally cracking down the roads of many villages in different parts of Haiti epically toward the north. The political situation is so wicked right now and in distress as the replacement of President Martelly who left office as his term expired on Feb 7, has taken all the media’s attention.

No one seems to be care that this draught causes starvation. Meanwhile, the crowds and families are complaining about the all new high price of goods and come home with their basket ¾ empty from the market and the country has nothing to feed them either.

Jeanton is one of our school projects located on the north side of Haiti and which living condition caused by the draught is getting worse every day stretching up to 8 months. Many wells are dry and there is nothing in the field to pick to consume for the families and no herbs to feed the animals. So many of the population has decided to sell all cows, pigs, donkey and horses that were their only savings. Some have as a last resort of capitol their goats; left to wander for miles to search for their own food. The goats have a chance to survive and as they are marked, their owners will walk for miles to search for them when the first drop of rain will come down.

In such situation, parents in Jeanton don’t keep their children at home on school days because they know that Star of Hope makes school lunch available for the school to serve 414 hot meals on every school day and drinking water to all children. It’s a guarantee for all parents for knowing if they can’t find anything to bring to the table for their children, that Star of Hope had solved part of their problem for not letting any children staying with an empty stomach at the school on school days which become now a privilege for all parents during that starvation in the villages.

Text water10 to 41444 now to help!

The draught has dried the river and many artisanal wells in Jeanton. Thanks God that the 2 wells dig by machines and Star of Hope are still pumping water, but on low flow now because of the draught, the wells serve the entire community of 3,500 persons.

Jeanton with potential to grow banana, millet, papaya, okra, water melon, sugar cane and hot pepper is more likely becoming a desert than a place where people would live by choice. That’s why; together and with an echo, the entire community is asking for a humanitarian intervention to help them from starvation by providing in short term some food kits distribution that will cost $35 USD/unit for 300 families in urgent need. Then later a trhisd kit would provide agricultural seeds to help them with the next planting season.

Meanwhile, the parents in Jeanton are very grateful and renew their appreciation to Star of Hope program and thanking all sponsors for their continuing support especially during this difficult period.
