Many people are asking, "How is it going in Haiti?" I can only say, "Very bad indeed."

Here is a short speech I have been giving over the last few days concerning Haiti.

The message is bleak and much worse than before.

How often do you hear, "Let us come together to address a crucial issue facing humanity"?

Consider the dire circumstances endured by the children of Haiti, where their daily lives are shadowed by heart-wrenching fear. Amid extensive political turmoil, societal unrest, and economic hardship intensified by gang violence, the children's future hangs uncertainly in the balance.

In a country where gangs exert control over 80% of the capital, rendering travel unsafe and uncommon, our mission becomes even more critical.

Our mandate at Star of Hope is clear: to provide education and sustenance to over 2000 students, serving as a Christian beacon of hope in the face of pervasive adversity. Despite the challenges imposed by rampant gang violence and uncertainty, we remain steadfast in our belief in the power we have to change their future with individual acts of goodwill.

By lending your support, you're not merely donating to a cause; you're investing in the future of Haiti and its children. You're allowing these young minds to break free from the shackles of poverty while continuing to receive the message of hope through the Gospel of Christ. I attest, "The children in our programs will emerge as catalysts for positive societal change." The inverse is that the children will have no circumstances to develop as functioning citizens or Christians. With no help, there is no hope.

Simply stated,  your gift to Haiti's children will have, a huge impact, on the individual child.

Though the circumstances may seem grim, our collective action possesses the potential to effect tangible and meaningful change. Your monthly contribution, regardless of its size, will provide essential resources and bolster the strength of these young individuals.

Let us stand united as beacons of hope, working to sculpt a brighter tomorrow for Haiti, one child at a time. I implore you to join us today and become an integral part of this transformative journey for these 2000 children.

Considering Haiti's present situation, it's crucial to acknowledge the increased cost of providing for these children. The price for one lunch has surged from 25 cents, just two years ago, to 1 dollar today, due to inflation and civil unrest.

To surmount these challenges and ensure the success of our mission, I ask you clearly: Can you spare just a little to support our school lunch program? For instance, if 100 people were to contribute just 10 dollars a month, we could provide... school lunches for half of our students for a single day. That would be a great help.

As you can see, the numbers are huge; we are fighting a massive battle for the children.

Every gift, large or small, brings hope with it.

On a web page, one might see buttons with names like "sign up now" or "give now." My ask today, what I want you to do, is TEXT LUNCH TO 71777, then look at the reply in a quiet place, and contemplate what is being asked of you. Contemplate how much help your small gift can make!

Thank you.

Update 3/25/2024 - The hunger in Haiti has reached unprecedented levels; there are no words to express the decline. Currently, 45% of the population, which translates to 4.97 million people, is experiencing acute hunger and facing difficulties meeting their basic food needs.

The increase in armed gang violence in recent months has forced many residents to seek refuge in safer places. This has resulted in an estimated 362,000 – 500,000 people being internally displaced. In the last two weeks alone, over 33,000 people have fled the capital city of Haiti. It is a heartbreaking situation, and the people of Haiti deserve better. The best way to help is to provide tools and seeds so the people can grow food.
