Lunch keeps them in School

ikon stjarnfadder activeMake a Huge Impact

It is easy to understand if you listen, this boy has a lunch but not all children do! Help to provide a school lunch to children in our projects around the world - that way you will be part of ensuring that they get the food and nutrition they need while in school.

Your gift will go to purchasing food for all children in our schools and more.

That's what we call a "Lunch Buddy" it means that together we can secure access to food for these children into the future. Do you say Yes to Lunch buddy

In Taytay, Philippines we our 26th High School class is done, finished and has graduated. These young people will go out better able to succeed than if they had not attended Star of Hope High School. Huge thanks to the sponsors who empowered this success. Each graduate is prepared for work or going on to higher education. They have sound Christian values to guide them in life. Thank you for your part in their success.

To our graduates we say congratulations for a success well earned. We encourage you, as you take the next steps in life, to dream of changing the world for the better. May you look back on your time at the Star of Hope school with fondness and find that what you learned and experienced there is good. May God richly bless you as you go out from us.

Enjoy the photo set from the graduation and be encouraged by the smiling, proud faces.

Myrtha Dor reports from Haiti and a new wet project!

Today (3-13-15) we have been to Dano, Haiti together with 2 members of our Board of Directors to take part to the inauguration of the Water project and Library financed by Star of Hope with the funds of Soderberg & Partners.

As we arrived in Dano ahead the schedule, we profit the time and visit the community Soccer field project in construction with Georges Hudicourt and Sandro Masucci; the President and Vice President of our Board of Directors. They were happy to see this ambitious work and the progress in the development work that Star of Hope is doing in Dano. The President of our board was amazed to see how much Star of Hope Haiti we have accomplished.

Delegations from different schools from the area, parents and children were all present to show their happiness as these 2 projects are officially now part of their daily life. Regardless your school, living only in the community; the library doors are opened to all for research, to borrow or to buy. The big winner of this library is of course the Dano’s school. They have already established a reading time schedule for all classes that will stimulate the children to borrow the books and to be amused to read. The community is so happy for their library project that they have named it “SODERSTAR” in recognition of this tremendous gift from Soderberg & Partners Sweden through Star of Hope.

The Water Project is named “Gift of God Water” by the entire community who has been suffering for years for this precious drink. After the earthquake an organization spent hundred thousands of American dollars to build more than a dozen water kiosks in the community, none gives a drop of water because of drought the piping catchment is dried. That’s why this water project in Dano is considered as a gift from God and also seen as a blessing for the community that they are protecting and giving good care.

The hand pump and the water kiosk inside the school project is one of 2 stations serving the entire community of nearly 12,000 people! The long 60 minute trip to get water is no longer applicable for people living in Dano. The water is limpid and fresh. It teases you to drink a cup when collecting it in bucket. So fresh and sweet, drinking it travels you to the world to admire its importance. The importance to have it now available at all time to drink, to cook, to bath, for the laundry and all other house work and need is a blessing.

In behalf of the community of Dano and the Haitian Board of Directors and Star of Hope Haiti, we send our special thanks to Soderberg & Partners who are supporting our development work in order to make a difference in the life of the Haitian citizens living in their community.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be part of a mission’s team and travel to a place like Haiti? For twelve people from Parkview Baptist Church in Lexington, Nebraska that dreaming became a reality on January 12, 2015.

The group had raised funds to put in a soccer field at our school in Jeanton, Haiti. Grass! Real grass instead of sand and gravel to play on is only a fantasy of most the children in Haiti. The group thought this was the most important part of their trip. Rather they found something they weren’t expecting.

Each day I asked the group the same two questions. The first, what is Haiti like? The second, why did God put you on this team, or why are you here? What the team discovered was that the soccer field was not very important. But rather each school teacher, principal, child, and pastor they met shared a common truth. The very presence of the team in Haiti meant more than the money they sent, and more than the soccer field. They were told – “Your presence here in Haiti means you care!”

As the group played with children of all ages, visited the country and saw part of what Star of Hope is doing in Haiti, God did miraculous things in the hearts and minds of each team member. They left Haiti with a deep understanding that it is relationships that matter, not things.I tell everyone who is thinking about visiting Haiti with one of our teams, (which we call StarTeams), that Haiti will infect them and they will be forever changed. The Parkview Group would confirm that truth.

If you are interested in learning more about our StarTeams and how you, your church or group could participate on one, just give me a call at (866) 653-0321.

Can’t go yourself? Funds are always needed to help make these trips work. Perhaps you could help with that funding.

By the way. They DID complete the new soccer field!

Reza Sponsors a little girl in Marigot, Haiti

Reza has partnered with Star of Hope to help the children of Haiti. This year we are in need of help to feed the 4,000 children in our Haiti projects. The cost of feeding has increased due to some things outside our control. Reza is partnering with us to find 4,000 people who can each give just $10 to feed one of our kids for a month. Did you know one lunch in Haiti costs just 25 cents!

We are calling this endeavor Lunch Buddies! and we need you!

New update from Ghana via Ambrose Asmah Country director.

February is the month of Love and we, the staff, children and management of Star of Hope Ghana wishes our colleagues and sponsors a happy Valentine’s Day

Our children in Osae Krodua wish to say a Happy Valentine to Star of Hope International and all their sponsors who had shown them LOVE, all these years.

The children did drawings and painted pictures in their classrooms to mark the Valentine day which falls on a Saturday when they do not go to school. According to the children their hearts are full of gratitude for the sponsor’s contribution towards their development.

They wish you them all the best and hope the LOVE will bind forever and ever.  Amen.

One thing you can do right now to help the children of  Osae Krodua Ghana is to be a lunch buddy and give the children healthy school food. What a great Valentines gift back to the kids!
