The latest Star team delivers the furniture they made to the school in Marigot Haiti. What a great feeling it must of been to first produce the furniture from raw materials and then paint them with the final work being the joyous delivery. What a feeling!

What a feeling!

Look at that production run!

We had our first 2015 annual meeting with all the school project leaders and committees, over 35 members attended. It’s the day for all projects to be together and for everyone to share their difficulties, successes and experiences as well as joint problem solving inside their projects.

It’s also the opportunity for Star of Hope Haiti to thank the workers and volunteers for their collaboration. Also it is a great time to revisit and renew our expectations and determination for a good year in 2015 with measureable accomplishments throughout the year. It’s was also for SO Haiti the day to sign with them the different agreements for 2015 as well as the budget and the minimum standards cooperation agreement. We also shared with our entire staff the project plan for 2015 through school projects and evangelical projects or missions.

It was a full day of work from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. It was also kind of a family day for SO Haiti as at breakfast, lunch and dinner, we all took turns at the table to pray, to joke and laugh.

In the end, the school leaders expressed words of gratitude to Star of Hope for previous development work and support. The leaders spoke of the benefit to the local communities in education, community development, water and sanitation and in some cases new school construction for the people of Haiti. They promised their sincere collaboration for future cooperation aid as well and everyone was at peace. Thank you.

Current Need >> HELP ONE CHILD WITH SCHOOL LUNCH

Charitable gifts at the year end might save you in the long run so please remember Star of Hope and our work on behalf of children across the world.

Now 2014 is quickly coming to an end and 2015 will be here before we know it. We get caught up in the end of year activities and we forget about making year-end gifts or we forget how to reduce our taxes too!
These gifts, large or small, are important to us as it allows our work to blossom and the return on investment is seen in the children's eyes.
Looking over your charitable giving plans between now and Dec. 31 can help assure maximum benefits for you and your family as well as Star of Hope. Giving sometimes helps you meet personal goals as well spiritual goals.
There many ways you can make a gift before the end of the year that will provide you with valuable benefits and help further the work.
These benefits include tax savings on this year's return and bypass of capital gains tax on the sale of your property.
Here are three options for year-end giving:

A. Make a deductible gift of cash
While all gifts mailed or hand-delivered by Dec. 31 qualify for the charitable deduction, gifts of cash are the most common and the easiest way to give. If you itemize your tax deductions, gifts of cash are deductible up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income (AGI).

B. Make a deductible gift of securities
Making gifts of stocks, bonds, and/or mutual funds directly to Star of Hope can bring extra tax savings. If you have held such assets longer than one year, the gift can be deducted at full fair market value, not just the original cost. Giving this way enables you to bypass capital gains tax. Gifts of securities are deductible up to 30 percent of AGI. Please ask your expert too.

C. Make a deductible gift of real estate, oil lease or crop futures and avoid taxes.
If you own appreciated real estate that you no longer need, consider gifting this property to Star of Hope for the benefit of your personal cause weather it be; education, health, spiritual leadership or other. Star of Hope will sell your property tax-free, and you will receive a charitable tax deduction for the fair market value of the property and avoid paying capital gains tax.

Now is also a good time to review your estate plan as well.
Many want to make an impact on the world, to leave it in a better state after we are gone. A bequest is one of the easiest ways to have a lasting impact on the people and organizations that mean the most to you. You can create a bequest of any dollar amount, gift specific property, or designate a percentage of your estate in your will or trust.
Ten percent can make a big impact. Your generosity will make a difference for years to come.

These are but a few examples of what we plan for the New Year;

• Water wells in Haiti and Argentina

• New building in Argentina

• Enhanced nutrition for our kids

• Training and services to families caring for children with disabilities - Romania

• Economic opportunities for people in Haiti and Argentina

From Star of Hope we say thank you.

During this season of Thanksgiving, our Star of Hope kids across the world give thanks for you! While you may never meet any of the children enrolled in our schools and other projects, they know about you and understand that it is people from what they call the 'rich countries' that make it all possible. Star of Hope donors give them the possibility to go to school, have a lunch, receive therapy for a disability, or have a place to live that is warm and loving.

Each time I visit a project with foreigners, the first thing out of the mouths of the children is thank you! Jennifer, from Kansas was taken aback when that happened to her! It was her first contact with Star of Hope and she wasn't yet a sponsor. When those hundreds of kids ran up to her and said thank you for being my sponsor, she turned to me and said, "What do I say? - I'm not a sponsor yet." I told her that she represented all the sponsors to these kids.

Most countries we serve do not have a special day set aside for giving thanks. But for many of our Star of Hope kids, they truly give thanks for waking up each morning, for having a stomach that isn't empty, for the school and church that Star of Hope supports for their benefit, and for their sponsor.

I have been profoundly moved this past year as I was able to join the celebration of two new church buildings being dedicated. I met adults who consider themselves "Star of Hope Kids". These are men and women who came up through our supported schools and projects and today are godly men and women, who are truly making a difference in Haiti.

I join them in saying thank you for your generous support for Star of Hope through your prayers and gifts.

This week as you give thanks, could you gift a chicken to a family in Haiti or Romania? This would be such a special gift that will truly raise a prayer of thanksgiving.

May God Richly Bless you,
Barry W Borror

We have had many successes this year but they will not be listed here rather you who are our donors will get a year-end report after the first of the year. However, we have been blessed with being able to facilitate many new "firsts". As we were looking at these we realized that we are able to say without a doubt that we have kept our main thing our main thing.

Our Mission is to help the poorest children around the world create a better life for themselves. That’s a great sentence especially as that is just what we have done.

Our Vision is a world where all children have an opportunity to become educated, healthy adults, who get involved in their communities and share their love of Jesus Christ. That’s a great sentence too especially as that is just what we have done and we have taken steps to do even more on the later.

But how do we put a face on this, how do we depict hope and love, gratitude and thanks all in one photo; well this might be a good example.

Hope, love, gratitude and thanks all in one...

Thank you for your gifts so we can make the world a better place. Please remember that our Christmas catalog is out too so please check it out as some of our kids have no chance at a present without your extra help.

So please consider a virtual gift that will make a marginalized child's day and someone near and dear to you most happy!
